Fodder – Bran

Bran (lat. Furfur) is the residual product from grinding cereals. We at Topaz Mel, use mainly the grain husk of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and rye (Secale cereale). They consist of cellulose, hemicellulose (non-Starch polysaccharide) and lignin. They are used primarily as a food means for animals.

Wheat bran is a rich source of phosphorus, contains relatively large amounts of B vitamins, and when the wheat germ is not separated – vitamin E as well. On the other hand, bran contains phytic acid, which binds zinc, magnesium and iron.

Wheat bran is water-insoluble and passes unchanged throughout the entire digestive tract. Known wheat bran is part of the group of dietary fiber. All healthy effects of dietary fiber are based on their properties to be indigestible and bulking. Thus they fill the intestines. Peristalsis strengthens and intestinal contents are disposed of much faster and easier. Therefore dietary fiber as wheat bran is extremely useful. Wheat bran accelerates digestion, enhances intestinal motility and thus helps regulate gastrointestinal activity, and improve metabolism.

Topaz Mel offers 3 types of bran – soft, granular and bran for nutrition. Wheat bran in particular is a by-product from the grinding of wheat, according to internal company technological documentation
